This mouse and receiver work just fine.

The housing seems a little large for a vertical USB slot on my laptop.

Don't bother to spend time and money on this.

Once you figure out to reconnect the mouse with the left mouse button when it is "sleeping" it works.

I have tried every suggestion and cannot get it to reset properly. I end up having to take the batteries out

Cheap, works great. I wrote the review below and now have learned the trick to getting this mouse to sync upon booting. You have to wait until the laptop is completely booted then click the left mouse button one time and after that it seems to sync...
