Sigma EX - Zoom lens - 24 mm - 70 mm - f/2.8 DG - Canon EF

This was my next move up from the 18-55 kit lens and although not as wide, the lens gives more depth to the pictures, and is very good on the AF. Very good build and results compared to the Canon equivalent and a lot cheaper

None noticed so far

Large constant apperture, compatible with both full frame and crop sensors as well as film cameras.

Heavy and very noisy auto focus motor. Very larger front end (82mm) makes filters very expensive.

Good value for money. Build quality seems fine. A good wide aperture lens with nice zoom range.

Pretty heavy, and not exactly compact.

Quite solid, came with lens hood and case.

Good solid lens with very good optics for the price. Very fast (f2,8) through the entire zoom This replaces my std kit lens from Canon 400D and is my 'walk-about' lens'. Easy to pick up its needs (see below) and adjust accordingly Looks the part.

The lens hood is poor, not big enough so can get lens flare if not careful in some situations. Manual to Auto a little clumsy. Be aware of setting to avoid damage (see instructions) Perhaps a little too soft at f2.8 so care needed in composition &...
