Toshiba Portege Z835 Review

Toshiba's Z835 does not make a good first impression. It's as thin as a piece of cardboard, and feels just slightly stronger. These snap judgments about the laptop's strength are only worsened by a sub-par keyboard and a display that isn't sharp or...

Review: Toshiba Portege Z835

Toshiba Portege Z830 \/ Z835

Toshiba should know a thing or two about skinny, featherweight laptops. Back in 2007, the company unveiled the Portege R500, a 2.4-pound laptop measuring what was then an anorexic 0.77 inches (19.6mm) thick. Much to everyone's disbelief, it managed to...

Aggressively priced ; Long battery life ; Lightweight, even for an Ultrabook ; Wide selection of ports, backlit keyboard

Performance trails other Ultrabooks ; Poor viewing angles ; Dated design, minor build quality issues

Lightest. Least expensive. Best selection of ports. There are tons of reasons to love this aggressively priced Ultrabook, though its dated design and so-so performance will turn off some shoppers.

Toshiba Portege Z835-P370

Toshiba plays the value card as well as the featherweight card with its Portege Z835-P370 ultrabook.

As light as a 13.3-inch ultrabook gets. Plenty of ports. Backlit keyboard. 6GB of RAM for the price of competitors' 4GB.

Screen a little flimsy. Keyboard a little stiff. No Smart Connect technology.

Toshiba Portege Z835 review:

Although it's less than 6 months old, it already feels as if we've been living in the ultrabook era forever. When a new laptop arrives, I automatically assume it'll be thin, lightweight, with a solid-state drive for storage; in other words, like a...

The Toshiba Portege Z835 offers more configuration options than most ultrabooks, and includes features, such as an Ethernet port, left out of other models.

The design worked fine on the least expensive ultrabook, but this more-expensive version doesn't look and feel as nice as the competition.

The original Toshiba Portege Z835 was a fantastic value that helped us overlook a weak touch pad/keyboard combo. This faster version is about $200 more, but keeps the same so-so design.

Toshiba Portege Z835-P330

The Toshiba Portege Z835-P330 is the lightest, longest-lasting ultrabook we've seen yet, and its affordability adds sparkle to a system with moderate performance and limited graphics capability.

Lightest ultrabook yet. Full feature set, with extras like USB 3.0, WiDi 2.0, and full-sized HDMI. Longest battery life in the category.

Wimpy processing and graphics. Flimsy screen. Keyboard flexes. Small touchpad.

Toshiba Portege Z835 ultrabook review

In the last couple of weeks, ultrabooks — Intel's new category of ultrathin and ultralight laptops — have been arriving one by one, each aiming to derail the MacBook Air's lead with a mix of competitive pricing and new...

Incredibly light (even lighter than the 13-Macbook Air) ; Backlit keyboard ; Good battery life ; Very competitive price

Not the most attractive design ; Build quality could be better ; Screen is washed out ; Base configuration only has Core i3

The Z835 proves that Intel’s vision might not be so impossible after all

Toshiba Portégé Z835 Review

Toshiba does Acer $100 better, offering the Z835, a Best Buy exclusive, for $800. Its low price is matched by its light weight. At two pounds, 6.6 ounces, it beats all the others here by a good half-pound. But the Z835 also looks and feels the cheapest...

Very slim and lightweight for the price; lots of ports

Too underpowered; sorry SSD speeds; flimsy lid

Toshiba Portege Z830/Z835 review: nice overall package, a few flaws nevertheless!

The Toshiba Z830 is the lightest and thinnest ultrabook in its class right now and manages to offer a good mix of features and performances. If it weren't for the overall fragile feel and the loud cooling system, I'd say it's a top pick, especially...

thin and very light, magnesium used for the whole body, decent performances, matte screen, backlit keyboard, good trackpad, lots of ports, excellent battery life, good price tag

mushy keyboard with poor feedback, annoying fan, not the best display, feels fragile, rather slow SSD

With a fairly affordable price tag and a bunch of solid features, the Toshiba Z835 is one of the best ultrabooks available in stores these days.
