Getac V100

The Getac V100 is a lightweight rugged laptop that's practically indestructible, but it lacks the horsepower to run heavy-duty tasks.

Relatively lightweight for a fully rugged laptop. Meets all MIL-STD-810F requirements. Tablet capabilities. Quickly removable hard drive. Serial port. Loaded with wireless technology.

Underpowered. Battery life should be longer with an 87-Wh battery. Undersized keyboard.

GETAC V100

When driving through rough terrain or enduring the worst that Mother Nature can throw at you are part of your typical workday, you need a laptop that can take more than its share of punishment. You won't find rugged laptops at your local Best Buy, but...

For all of its ruggedness, the Getac V100 isn't going to last you more than a couple of years if the processing components can't keep up.

GETAC V100 GP notebook

Let's get something out of the way before we look at the hardware: we weren't actually able to test the GETAC in all the hostile environments you might want it to perform in, unless you count a frosty morning in the Surrey countryside. But much of what...

Will work in all conditions, good sized keyboard, screen, connectivity options, highly portable

Price, touchscreen pen not the most practical, plastic port covers prone to coming open

This is not however a PC that your average consumer will go for because of the cost. But if you need to work in a hostile environment then coming up with in excess of £3000 might be within your company budget.

GETAC V100 ruggedised laptop review

The GETAC V100 looks more like the kind of workman's toolbox you expect to find in the depths of a dusty shed than it does a laptop or tablet PC. The tough grey magnesium alloy case features dark plastic protection on every edge, as well as rubber and...

Lightweight and rugged, the GETAC V100 is ideal for those who really need a machine that's resistant to the elements, and to accidents. It's not a great-looking laptop, though, and its lack of an optical drive is the only thing that lets it down. Well,...

Getac V100 Fully Rugged Convertible Tablet PC Review

In a world filled with glossy covers and aluminium unibodies, we find that far too many electronics are incredible fragile and delicate. If you're not too careful, you'll break it and you lose out on quite a large…

Fully rugged design takes tons of abuse ; Quick access buttons on front for brightness, virtual keyboard, etc ; Locking clasp prevents accidental opening ; Relatively compact and lightweight for a rugged PC

Mediocre benchmark performance ; Make sure rubber flaps stay closed ; Touchscreen interface is clunky (as with all Windows 7 tablet PCs) ; Understandably very expensive compared to non-rugged notebooks

Getac V100 Review

In the age of the iPad and other sleek tablets, it's easy to scoff at the V100's unappealing boxy exterior, but in my eyes, it's an awfully handsome device

Tough ; Swivel screen function seamless and well-built ; Whisper quiet ; Excellent peformance for a rugged tablet ; Easily removable battery and hard drive

Note taking less than ideal ; Bright screen kills battery too quickly ; Cumbersome carrying handle ; Gets a bit toasty ; Mono speaker

There are tradeoffs for its effectively versatile and rugged design, including the inking issues and heat. Still, the Getac V100's performance impressed, and if it's power you need in a demanding environment, the V100 is a worthy beast

Getac V100

The V100 convertible is a nice unit if you need something tiny. But it's not nearly as rugged as billed, especially in terms of protection against shock. If you're going to use a V100, be sure not to drop it.

Poor battery life, died in shock testing

Getac - V100

If the market for ruggedised notebooks is niche, that for ruggedised tablet PCs is a niche in the wall of the other niche. Posh couriers spring to mind as one profession where stylus input is useful, ...

For all the quibbles, this is still a desirable piece of kit. If you need to use a notebook in a rough environment - building site, mountain/cave rescue, primary school - you probably have a legitimate reason to buy. Even if you just fancy a Hummer but...
