For all of its ruggedness, the Getac V100 isn't going to last you more than a couple of years if the processing components can't keep up.

This is not however a PC that your average consumer will go for because of the cost. But if you need to work in a hostile environment then coming up with in excess of £3000 might be within your company budget.

Lightweight and rugged, the GETAC V100 is ideal for those who really need a machine that's resistant to the elements, and to accidents. It's not a great-looking laptop, though, and its lack of an optical drive is the only thing that lets it down. Well,...

There are tradeoffs for its effectively versatile and rugged design, including the inking issues and heat. Still, the Getac V100's performance impressed, and if it's power you need in a demanding environment, the V100 is a worthy beast

For all the quibbles, this is still a desirable piece of kit. If you need to use a notebook in a rough environment - building site, mountain/cave rescue, primary school - you probably have a legitimate reason to buy. Even if you just fancy a Hummer but...
