RCA Lyra RD2212

The flash-based RD2212 is packed with fitness-friendly extras such as a stopwatch and a calorie counter, but be sure to read our review before you hit the gym, the track, or the street with this MP3 player.

Sporty, splashproof design; excellent battery life; includes fitness-friendly extras such as a stopwatch, a calorie counter, and a pulse-rate monitor; supports DRM-protected WMA files.

Clunky and slow interface; difficult for single-handed use.

Although it's packed with useful, fitness-oriented features, the RCA Lyra RD2212 is disappointing overall, thanks to a flawed design.

RCA Lyra RD22 review

RCA Lyra RD2212 With the Lyra RD2212 (256MB, $89), RCA attempts to create the ultimate gymworthy music machine and ends up with mixed results. On the plus side, the RD2212 manages to offer a compact, fitness-friendly design without sacrificing screen...

RCA Lyra Personal Jukebox RD2840

The 40GB RCA Lyra Personal Jukebox RD2840 is the bulkiest player in our roundup, but it also has the largest display and can plug directly into home, computer, and automotive sound systems.

The net result is a competitive product that offers a solid combination of good features and ease of use at a reasonable price.

Performance

RCA Lyra Micro Jukebox RD2760

Relatively compact; tiny, 1.5GB hard drive; carrying case with a Velcro strap; nice included headphones.

Minor operation glitches; too thick for pockets; case covers the buttons and the display.

The RD2760 has its positive points, but we expected more from RCA's first mini hard drive-based player.

RCA Lyra RD review: RCA Lyra RD

RCA Lyra RD

Relatively inexpensive; compact design; 128MB of built-in memory; built-in FM radio; expansion slot for adding memory.

Carrying case is a little chintzy.

The Lyra RD1080 is the best of RCA's current crop of flash-based MP3 players.
