Make sure you set any 480 i/p 4x3 input to theater1 mode so that it stretches and upscales nicely. leaving it in normal mode will make the picture look suprisingly bad, all edges are blurred.

The sound is not terribly bad but obviously, can't compare with the sound from a dedicated system with large speakers positioned away from the TV.
