from newegg = owned, not leased (software upgrade also)
tell directv you got it from newegg and it will be owned. Ask for the access card dept. or tell them you paid 749 for it, that's the magical number the CSR told me was owned vs leased.
2 HD tuners while you watch a 3rd program. What more could you want? The software has a rumored upgrade this summer so when that happens, expect a faster unit. If you have OTA, this is a wonderful unit and will work for years to come for you
250 gigs fills up fast with HD. You will need another hard drive if you record as much as me. Until the update, recording with 2 HD channels tuned takes a while

Love it but confused
Any thoughts.
Love it, but just got my Direct-TV bill and it says the receiver is a lease. I called Direct-TV and they claim I am leasing it from them.... Confused, I thought I bought it, never signed a lease agreement
I guess ownership of the box

My sony hd300 has better video
works fine
Directv has to be convinced that this is not a lease.Took several phone calls to accomplish.Newgg was helpful with this

Beats the hell out of cable DVR
The cable dvr (from Cxxxxst) is nice for the only reason that it is $xx a month with no upfront cost. Other than that, Tivo is the greatest invention ever and with full HD compatibility. There is no substitute.
Having had the original Tivo for about 4 years (since it was first introduced) and then went the HD unit when it first came out (for $1k!). This is a great unit. A little slow, but worth the wait
maybe price, but again, it is half of what it was when it was first introduced

MIND-BLOWING
Pull the trigger on this one - you'll love it - I know we do!
Amazingly easy to use and incredibly reliable. Plus, this is a fantastic value considering it's about HALF the price we paid in January 05
Only negative is that it's a LITTLE slower navigating from screen to screen compared to regular Tivo and the software does not have the "folder" feature
